Several independent bus companies provide public transport around York, Harrogate, Ripon and Northallerton. Main operators are Arriva, Dales & District and other council subsidised services.
Dalesbus and Yorkshire Dales Public Transport Users Group: During the summer months extra bus services connect Leeds, York and towns like Northallerton and Thirsk to the Dalesbus service with buses to all the popular parts of the Dales. Wonderful for getting out and about during the day but not much use to people looking for environmentally friendly transport to, say, Osmotherley nightlife. The Dales Bus does run a popular daily service on the Wensleydale Railway between Leeming Bar, Bedale, Leyburn and Redmire with Santa Specials available.
