Pickering is the largest centre in the Eastern Moors locality, and sits in the shadow of the remains of a medieval castle. The Beck Isle Museum of Rural Life is housed in the centre of town in a Grade II listed building, but the most popular local attraction is the North York Moors Railway, which makes its nostalgic journey under steam from Pickering station to Grosmont. To see one of Yorkshire’s prettiest villages, make for Thornton-le-Dale.
