Scarborough Rugby club was formed in November 1926, when the only fifty rugby enthusiasts in Scarborough (who knew hardly anything about rugby), decided to meet up in the Pavilion Hotel, and the club was formed.
The club started off at the Athletic Ground and then was moved to Newby in a field, which has been its home ever since. It was not then an ideal ground and that Newby should not be the last resting place of Scarborough R.U.F.C. But now Scarborough R.U.F.C has made the best of the Newby facilities with a clubhouse, a converted poultry house, changing accommodation and a bar.
