The North York moors are a paradise for keen walkers/ hikers, the scenery is absoultley fantastic especially in the summer months when the heather is blossoming and so the hills get sprinkled with purple. There are 50 set walks in the national park.
The North York Moors steam railway makes its way up from the south of this locality and cuts through the attractive village of Goathland, which is known to millions of Britons as Aidensfield in the long-running series 'Heartbeat'. The line covers the 18 miles between Pickering and Grosmont and makes its way through Newtondale, which is arguably the North York Moors most scenic valley.
To the east on the North York Moors Heritage Coast are Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby. Robin’s Hood Bay marks the end point of the famous coast-to-coast walk and is a very attractive village, where narrow, twisting streets cascade towards the sea. The wide sweeping bay extends three miles to the south, where it meets the Ravenscar headland.
