The market town of Morpeth is located on the banks of the River Wansbeck and is an ideal base to explore the spectacular Northumbrian beaches to the east, the Northumberland National Park & Kielder Forest to the west, or the Cheviot Hills to the north.
The River Wansbeck flows through the centre of the town, it provides lovely riverside walks which link to Carlisle Park. The town also has a leisure centre and swimming pool, and has a great range of shops and restaurants.
Some of the town’s buildings date from the 13th and 14th centuries, like the Old Chantry, the Church of St. Mary and the famous clock tower that was once part of the town jail. But perhaps the most impressive architecture is from the 18th century, like Sir John Vanbrugh’s Town Hall, which was built in 1714.
