The region is mainly a large urban sprawl stretching from Sheffield to Doncaster. Renowned for its steel it is still an important producer of cutlery; Sheffield is a lively city but was largely destroyed in WW2 so has little of architectural interest. There are a number of attractions in the area such as Conisbrough Castle near Doncaster, one of the finest surviving medieval structures in the country and Wentworth Castle Gardens.
