Next to the village of Aysgarth the River Ure tumbles over a series of broad limestone steps, which stretch for over a mile and are known as the Aysgarth Falls.
The Falls were formed in the ice age several thousand years ago, the great rivers of ice ground down inside the valleys.
Although the falls are not particularly high, the waterfalls are one of Wensleydale's most famous beauty spots (it was featured in the Kevin Costner film "Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves"), the falls have a lovely riverside walk linking the Upper, Middle and Lower Falls.
