Wakefield is the capital of West Yorkshire, and until relatively recently was a far bigger centre than Leeds. The town centre boasts a number of historic buildings, including one of only four remaining medieval bridge chapels. Other local attractions include the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which features works by prominent sculptors such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, and Nostell Priory, where you can admire Robert Adam interiors and Thomas Chippendale furniture, among other treasures.
