Pocklington is an attractive town nestling among gorgeous countryside at the foothills of the Yorkshire Wolds. The Pocklington Canal is one of the most important waterways for wildlife in the whole of the UK. It is a beautiful walk for Nature watchers you can walk the whole length of the canal on a grassy-tow path.

The town’s most famous resident was William Wilberforce, who wrote his first ever letter condemning the slave trade while boarding at Pocklington Grammar School. This link is recalled in the town’s coat of arms, which depicts a broken chain in its imagery.

The town’s principal attraction is Burnby Hall Gardens, which feature the largest collection of hardy water-lilies in Europe. The ornamental lakes are complemented by a walled rose garden and woodlands.
