Selby Travel Guide

The jewel in Selby’s crown has to be the lovely abbey complex, which was built shortly after the Norman invasion of 1066, and is thought to have been the birthplace of King Henry I in 1068. The town sits on the banks of the River Ouse and was once a significant inland port. The network of waterways means that there is a good choice of boat trips, and waterside walks. Attractive low-lying countryside surrounds the town, and it is very popular with walkers and cyclists.
