The Cumbrian coast is an unlikely mixture of heavy industry and scenic beauty spots, and features on a couple of popular walkways: the Cumbrian Coastal Way, which takes in the best of the local sights; and the Coast-to-Coast Walk, which runs from St. Bees Head to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast. Ravenglass is the only coastal town to fall within the Lake Distrcit National Park, and Whitehaven is an attractive Georgian town that was once one of the country’s busiest ports.
