Kirkby Lonsdale is a beautiful village just inside the south Cumbrian border that is set on a hillside overlooking the River Lune. Just to the south of the town the river is spanned by the impressive 13th century Devil Bridge, so named because it was not known how and exactly when it was built, giving rise to speculation that the Beelzebub erected it one night.

St. Mary’s Church was built between 1093 and 1130, it is a beautiful church and much like Durham Cathedral, the stone has a diamond pattern on it. The church forms a fantastic focal point for one of the oldest towns in Cumbria.

The surrounding area has been accredited an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers fantastic walking terrain. The fells that overshadow the village of Bourbon were used as beacons in the days of the Spanish Armada and are riddled with potholes, the most famous being Bull Pot and Cow Pot.
