The Lake District is widely regarded as England’s finest inland countryside, the area spans 30 miles and there are more lakes and mountains here than anywhere else in the country.
This region contains England’s highest mountain Scafell Pike, which reaches 3210ft above sea level. From the summit you will be rewarded with views of Lake Windermere, Derwent Water, Wast Water and the peaks of Pillar and Great Gable.
Keswick on the edge of Derwent Water is this area’s major town and offers a variety of museums, as well as the breathtaking landscapes. Among them the incongruous but nonetheless entertaining, Cars to the Stars Museum, which has gathered together James Bond’s Lotus, Mr. Bean’s Mini, Lady Penelope’s Roller and Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang to name but a few.
The Keswick Museum & Art Gallery is a Victorian collection of oddities and curios; it also explores local history and has a collection of manuscripts by some of Lakeland’s famous writers.
