The Penrith locality boasts the Lakes’ most popular walk up Helvellyn peak, as well as the charming Lakeland resort of Patterdale. The town itself is an ancient settlement, where the twisting alleys, and lanes remain largely intact. The castle dates from the 14th century, when it was built to repel attacks from Border Reivers, and sits among attractive parklands, with commanding views over the town.
