The Eden Valley nestles between the Lake District to the west and Pennines to the east and consequently is the unsung hero of Cumbria.
One of the most enjoyable ways to discover the valley is on board the Settle-Carlisle steam railway, which stops at most of the Eden Valley villages and cuts through the rocky peaks in long tunnels cut by gangs of Irish labourers in the late 19th century.
Wild Boar Fell at the south of the locality reaches 2324ft and has the unique distinction of being one of the ‘Yorkshire Dales’ despite being in Cumbria. Having scrambled up the steep sides of the fell you will be greeted by a flat plateau from where you can enjoy spectacular views out over Yorkshire and Cumbria.
