Various public transport initiatives encourage visitors to use buses and other alternatives to private cars to try and reduce the impact of pollution and congestion, especially within the Lake District National Park. There are limited Sunday services on main bus routes throughout the year and most summer Sundays.
The Environmental Transport Association states that bus services on "main routes through the Lake District are as good as any city services." Entrance to some attractions within the park are free to bus users - car owners are charged for parking.
