At the north of the Fylde Coast on the Wyre Estuary is Fleetwood, which was once one of this country’s busiest fishing ports. The industry has declined somewhat but the trawlers still unload their catches on the harbour-side most days.
The town boasts a Marina & Yacht Club, which attracts boats from all along the west coast and you will have no difficulty hiring a vessel if you want to try your hand at sea angling. Fleetwood also has three lighthouses to its name, two of which are right in the town. To discover more about the town’s maritime and nautical heritage visit the Fleetwood Museum.
The town was the first planned town in the time of Queen Victoria and was also the first town to use trams as transport. As such the town celebrates 'Tram Sunday' each year in July. Fleetwood also plays host to the Flyde Folk Festival yearly and the CAMRA beer festival in February.
