The Sefton Coast has over a mile of sand dunes that are home to some rare and endangered wildlife, and are owned and managed by the National Trust. This stretch of coast is receding inland, and the old coastal fishing village of Formby is now buried under sand. A few miles up the coast is the upmarket resort of Southport, which boasts elegant shops, and immaculate gardens, rather than the more typical seaside arcades and amusements.
