Runcorn sits at the head of the Mersey estuary, and was established as a strategic settlement in the 10th century, though this days is very industrialised. Beer is big business in Warrington these days, as more ale is brewed here than any other part of the country. The town has some attractive old buildings and a good museum & art gallery.
