Much like Omagh, there isn’t a great deal to do in Cookstown; it’s a small rural market town, whose biggest boast is a wide street that provides easy parking! That said, it is a handy rural base for seeing nearby attractions and is the shopping centre for East County Tyrone.

There are a handful of places to stay, including Drum Manor Forest Camping Park, 2 miles west of the town centre, which has its own lakes, arboretum and butterfly farm.

  • Nearby are the Beaghmore Stone Circles are well worth checking out, they consist of seven circles which were first discovered in 1945-9 when 1269 stones were uncovered, they had all been buried in the thick layer of peat which is a dominating feature of this area.
