Omagh is sadly usually remembered for the 1998 car bomb that killed 29 people and injured over 200 more. Omagh sits at the start of the River Strule, where the Comowen and Drumragh rivers meet.

There isn’t much to do in Omagh itself, but it’s a market town and market day is great for getting that ‘Irish market’ photo. It’s also a great place to base yourself for the numerous nearby attractions.

  • Gortin Glen Forest Park is a lovely place to visit. It is a popular forest, especially with school groups. You can take the beautiful walk through the forest and out the other side on bare hill which is covered with gorgeous purple bell heather, you may even spot a sitka deer.
