The Isle of May lies just off the coast of Fife in the Firth of Forth and has been a National Nature Reserve for 50 years. Just over a mile long, it is home to huge colonies of seabirds - puffins, terns, kittiwakes are all numerous - as well as a large grey seal colony.
There are footpaths on the island with markers to help you find your way about and to point out view spots. The island has no refreshment so you will need to bring your own supplies. Weather can change on a pinhead here so bring something to protect you from the elements as well.
The Isle of May can be reached by boat from either Anstruther or Crail (there are regular services), but check as conditions may sometimes prevent travel.
