With its moat, twin towered gatehouse and imposing battlements, Caerlaverock Castle, is a grand medieval fortress. The scene of two famous sieges this moated castle has a turbulent history oweing much to it's proximity to England which brought it into border conflicts.
Today, visitors can enjoy a siege warfare exhibition, an onsite cafe, children's adventure park, two model siege engines, and nature trail. Stone carvings in the museum area and in the castle are hands-on exhibits, and the shop features a range of local products made in Dumfries and Galloway.
