The Port of Cairnryan is situated on the northern edge of Loch Ryan in the south west of Scotland, approximately five miles to the north of Stranraer. Although closer to Northern Ireland than Stranraer, the lack of train services to Cairnryan meant that it didn't develop as quickly as its nearby neighbour.

Facilities

Following a £4.5 million investment Cairnryan has excellent facilities. Facilities at the new P&O Terminal include :

  • Reception area

  • Children's play area

  • Provisions for the disabled

  • Baby changing facilities

  • Refreshments at the Fables Snack Bar

  • Convenience store in the terminal for snacks and newspapers

P & O Irish Sea Ferries

  • Up to 13 crossings a day in summer to Larne in Northern Ireland, a crossing of one hour 45 mins

  • Express Fast Ferry crossings in around an hour

Celebrate - The National Poet of Scotland

Robert Burns

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Scottish poet Robert Burns' birth. Burns was a poet and a lyricist and is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland.

The Burns Supper was started a few years after his death by a group of his friends; they held the supper to honour and remember Burns. The tradition caught on and the ritual of Burns Supper is now held all around the world.

His life and work will be celebrated throughout the year at many Burns-related events.
