The Stewartry Travel Guide

The name of this area refers to a time when it was ruled by feudal royal stewards. The town of Kirkcudbright was home to the Glasgow Boys art movement. Artists down the years have quite literally made their mark on the town, as the buildings are painted in glorious pastel shades. Go to Broughton House museum for a fascinating insight into the local art scene. Other attractions include MacLellan’s Castle and Tongland Abbey, and at Castle Douglas Threave House & Gardens are well worth a visit.
