Peterhead

Overview

Peterhead is a busy seaport to the north of Aberdeen. It is much more industrialised than the pretty fishing villages that surround it as the North Sea oil industry has made it an important port. A power station dominates the skyline and the town is also known for its high security prison.

There are however nods to Peterhead’s past; you should visit the Peterhead Maritime Heritage Museum or check out the Ugie Salmon Fish House, where you will see salmon and trout smoked in the traditional way.

  • The Peterhead Marina gives the town one of the finest equipped harbours in the East of Scotland. Because of it's easterly position Peterhead offers a safe stopover point for ships heading to and from Scandinavia.
