Dundee industries are often known as the three Js, jute, jam and journalism. The fertile soils around Dundee are particularly good for growing fruit and Mrs Keiller capitalised on this and started the town’s jam and marmalade industry in the late 18th century.
The reputation for journalism came about because of the offices of publisher D.C. Thompson whose titles include the Dundee Courier, the People’s Friend, the Beano and the Dandy. Dundee is also famous for its yummy Dundee cake and its football team Dundee United.
