The River Spey runs through Moray, and the waters are crammed full of salmon, and ideally suited to malt whisky manufacture, making it one of Scotland’s most celebrated rivers. You can tour many distilleries and discover how this luxury liquor is produced; Dufftown is a good place to start, as there is a malt whisky trail information centre, and two famous distilleries. Elgin is the administrative centre of Moray. It is an attractive place, where the medieval street plan is still evident today.
