This is the Scottish Highlands at their most remote and rugged, after the port of Ullapool, the coastline, and countryside, become desolate and unforgiving, as you enter the wilds of Sutherland, the most northerly point of mainland Britain. Because of the remote and unspoilt character of the place, many rare species of wildlife live here, including: golden eagles, deer, pine martens and wild cats. In the far NW of the locality, you will find John O’ Groats, the finish, or start, of the longest walk in Britain.
