The Stones of Stenness 

The parish of Stenness was once the most important Neolithic ceremonial centre in Orkney. The most popular remains amongst visitors are the Stones of Stenness, a well-preserved reminder of the Stone Age.

Originally this incredible site was a circular formation of 12 rock slabs, however today, just four remain. There is also a fairly ruined tabletop surrounded by a ritualistic henge monument.

• Close by, you will also find the Ring of Brodgar, another intriguing circular stone site. Originally the stone configuration here made up sixty, however, the Ring of Brodgar is less preserved, as there is no henge and just 27 remaining stones.
