The area has excellent Intercity trains to Edinburgh from London and across the UK. The East Coast line, the fastest inter-city railway in Britain, links Edinburgh's Waverley station with London and Europe. Express services to major cities in Scotland include Edinburgh to Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen as well as a network of local train services.

From Edinburgh, local trains run east to North Berwick and Dunbar on the coast and west to the Palace at Linlithgow and beyond. Go north from Edinburgh by train, to Fife or Perth and beyond and you will cross the Forth Bridge.
