Canongate is the last section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. It has been subject to some of the most dramatic re-generation in recent times and holds many faithful reproduction buildings.

The People's Story, on Canongate, is a museum with a difference, dedicated to life in the British Isles. The museum is filled with sights, sounds and smells which are all from the past, a prison cell, a reform parade, servant at work, and a 1940s pub and tea room.

  • Just across the street is the Museum of Edinburgh which houses exhibitions pertaining to all things Scottish, the Scottish Poetry Library is a tranquil haven amidst the city centre and welcomes visitors free of charge.
