Edinburgh is without doubt one of Britain's most attractive cities. Built upon crags and extinct volcanoes it has an imposing splendour. The City has a long and rich history and as a result has a wealth of heritage sights for the enthusiastic visitor. Edinburgh's attractions are largely grouped into two quarters, the Old Town and the New Town.
Being a capital and a university city, Edinburgh offers more bars, restaurants, pubs, night clubs and hotels than you could possibly ever visit and of course, it is a great shopping centre. The fashonista might argue that Glasgow is better for haute couture and designer labels but the recently opened branch of Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh might go some way to balance that view. Shopaholics should also check out the department store Jenners, which is something of an institution locally.
