Dalkeith Palace in Dalkeith, Midlothian, is a remarkable mansion that began life as a castle in the 12th century before being converted into a opulent home 400 years later by James Douglas, 4th Earl of Morton, regent to James V1. It was later transformed again by Sir John Vanbrugh.
The Palace is currently leased to the University of Wisconsin as a base in Scotland.
