Nowhere in the Scottish Borders bore the brunt of the years of border strife more than Coldstream. And it is probably no coincidence that the nation’s first army regiment, the Coldstream Guards, was mustered in the town. The town lies on a stretch of the River Tweed that forms a natural boundary between Scotland and England, and the 18th century bridge has to be one of the most attractive border crossings.
