Jedburgh was one of the first major centres you reached after crossing the border into Scotland, and as such was a very important strategic stronghold. There is plenty of evidence of its turbulent past, yet the abbey is still a sight to behold, nearly 500 years after the Earl of Surrey ordered its destruction. Kelso is a gorgeous town that boasts a range of architectural styles, and was described by Sir Walter Scott as, the most beautiful village in Scotland. Just outside the town is Floors Castle, which was built by Sir John Vanburgh.
