Known as the The Historical Heart of Ayrshire, Galston is an ancient town set in beautiful wooded countryside. In its long history Galston has associations with the Campbells of Loudoun Castle, John Knox, George Wishart, William Wallace and Robert Bruce.

Barr Castle is the oldest building in Galston; a three storey fortified tower house, it was built in the 15th century. In modern times part of one of the walls of the Castle was concreted over to be used in the game of handball, and Galston handball players went on to became world champions.

  • Galston is home to the famous Loudoun Castle theme park set within the magnificent parkland and imposing ruins of Loudoun Castle. Loudoun Gowf Course in Galston is the only “gowf course” in the world. "Gowf", the old Scottish word for golf, has been played on these fields for over 400 years. Galston also offers craft and mill shops, a high quality fashion shop and a fine selection of cafes and restaurants.
