Once agricultural land, this area is now deep in the heart of industrialised Clydeside – but that does not mean it is without attractions. The Strathclyde Country Park is a great antidote to the scars of heavy industry. The 1,100-acre site plays host to all kinds of outdoor pursuits, concerts and also has a world-class centre for watersports. If you like to take things a little more gently, visit Dalzell House & Country Park or the RSPB Baron’s Haugh nature reserve.
