Transport Travel Guide 

It is easy to travel to and around Strathclyde, the largest region in Scotland. Comprising the counties of Argyllshire, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire, the Isle of Arran and Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, Strathclyde is covered by all forms of transport.

Flights to Strathclyde arrive at one of the region's two airports. Glasgow International Airport at Paisley is eight miles west of Glasgow City with transatlantic flights from across the USA plus scheduled flights from Europe and the rest of the UK. Glasgow Prestwick Airport is 32 miles and 45 mins drive from Glasgow city centre, with direct and connecting flights to national and international destinations. For cheap flights, the budget airline Ryanair flies into Prestwick Airport.

Various ferry services to Stranraer and Troon, Scotland from Ireland are convenient for Glasgow and Strathclyde. Onward trains or roads to the region make the journey easy. The Southern Hebrides and Arran Islands are reached by ferries from Oban and Ardrossan on the west coast of Scotland.

• Intercity trains travel to Glasgow on the west coast mainline. Queen Street Station is at the heart of Glasgow's public transport system with plenty of local trains and buses plus an underground system known as "The Clockwork Orange".
