East Grinstead a few miles to the east is the antithesis of Crawley, the High Street contains the longest uninterrupted row of 14th century timber framed houses in Britain. The town also features some Jacobean architecture, like Sackville College, which was completed in 1619 and Regency buildings like St Swithun’s Church, designed by James Wyatt.
The Bluebell Steam Railway which operates out of the town seems to be the height of modernity compared to its setting. Take a journey that travels through lovely Sussex countryside, passing through National Trust owned Sheffield Park and the Tudor village of Horsted Keynes.
