Less than 30 miles down the road from Brighton, Eastbourne couldn’t be further away from it in terms of character; nearly a quarter of residents are over 65, so it could hardly be described as being at the cutting edge of 'yoof culture'. What Eastbourne can claim though, is one of the best sunshine records in the country, and it is the closest town to the spectacular Beachy Head, where the South Downs abruptly meet the sea.
