Rebuilt 1420 and originally dating from 1156, much of the Mermaid Inn still stands today, as the principal Inn of Rye. Not only were ships' timbers used in the construction but also baulks of Sussex Oak.
The hotel offers 8 four-poster bedrooms, 15 double / twin bedded rooms, 5 family rooms and 3 single bedded rooms. All rooms have direct dial telephones, colour television, hairdryer and en-suite facilities. The inn has 24-hour service and porterage.
The Lounge Bar is one of the most interesting rooms in the Hotel, the main feature being the huge fireplace, possibly one of the largest in England. A vast beam spans the whole width, supported on stone piers. The award-winning restaurant offers the best of British and French Cuisine, and the head chef prides himself on using only the freshest local ingredients.
