Moreton lying to the east of Dorchester is the place where T.E. Lawrence, a.k.a. Lawrence of Arabia, settled after leaving the RAF. He was killed in a motorcycle accident nearby in 1935 and his home Clouds Hill was donated to the National Trust by his brother in 1939.
The church in this little village was bombed in WWII and when re-built was replaced by beautifully engraved glass windows designed by Lawrence Whistler. They make the church inside look magical, with fantastic patterns of light and create mountains of space.
The Moreton garden and plant centre is in the grounds of Moreton House, the differnt conditions throughout the garden allow a wide range of plants to grow including camellias, rhododendrons and hydrangeas. There is also a woodland area where gunnera, primula, iris and day lilies grow. The garden is a wonderful place, if you have some time take a walk around.
