Lying on the shores of the country’s biggest natural harbour are two of its best loved seaside resorts: Poole and Bournemouth. Poole is the more historic town, dating from the 13th century, while Bournemouth is a Victorian invention that typifies the 19th century passion for developing seaside resorts. Out in the harbour is Brownsea Island Nature Reserve, which is teeming with a rich variety of wildlife and claim to be the place that the Scout movement began.
