Sherbourne is built out of local gold stone and is a beautiful Dorset town. Sir Walter Raleigh had not one, but two castles here and there is also a magnificent abbey church. The attractive market town of Blandford Forum consists of mostly Georgian architecture, as fires destroyed earlier buildings in the early 18th century. The town appeared in the novels of Thomas Hardy under the name of Shottesford.
