Folkestone is a few miles north east of Hythe and the old town by the harbour is a relatively unspoilt reminder of the days when it was little more than a fishing village. The town is most famous for it's railway line which covers a distance of 13.5 miles from the picturesque Cinque Port of Hythe, near the channel tunnel, to the fishermans cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness.
The Leas is a grand old cliff-top promenade that is linked to the seafront by the Victorian Leas Lift. There are further reminders of the Napoleonic threat on the cliffs where you will see a Martello Tower, such a familiar sight along the south east coast of England.
Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is Folkestone's other main attraction, apart from the railway line, the park caters for everyone weither it's animals, historic houses, elegant gardens or magnificent scenery.
