Set among some of the loveliest countryside in West Sussex, Chichester city will remind you of the artsy fashionable areas of London. The city is probably best known for the annual arts festival that takes place at a number of venues across town. The most famous is the Festival Theatre, which opened in 1962 and had Sir Laurence Olivier as its 1st Artistic Director.
At the same time as the festival, the racecourse at Goodwood Park hosts one of England's most fashionable and celebrated racing events.
The major attraction to Chichester is the ruins of the Fishbourne Roman Palace, one of England's most visited ancient sites. Here you will find an on-site museum and some of the best collections of Roman mosaics, including the famous image of cupid on a dolphin.
