Artists Harbour Gallery is situated at the heart of Britain's maritime heritage and art in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. This artist-friendly gallery shows regular exhibitions of contemporary, marine or old naval fine work from British and local artists. Buy original paintings and prints, photography, reproductions, sculptures, posters, cards, materials, books. The Gallery also offer a range of traditional and high-tech services, from framing to giclee printmaking.
Our gallery lies within a beautiful Grade I listed building, Storehouse 9, itself a former Royal Navy gun store built in 1782. The wooden floorboards were taken from French warships captured by Nelson and his colleagues between 1756 and 1763 (even before Captain Cook sailed from near here to "discover" Australia). The historic floor features a green concrete runway for the great ships' cannons to be rolled out of store. Outside our windows is a Georgian brick colonnade also floored in French ships' timbers.
Further Information
The gallery is approximately 300 metres from Portsmouth's iconic Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays and within a mile of where Captain Cook and later Australia’s first European settlers embarked for "Down Under".
Further Information
The city of Portsmouth can justly claim to being the historic maritime capital of Britain. For centuries Portsmouth's main employer was the vast naval base sprawling across several miles of the harbour. Artists Harbour Gallery is ideally situated in the heart of it, with the awesome sight of modern warships docked nearby.
