Southsea is a seaside resort located in Portsmouth at the southern tip of Portsea Island in the county of Hampshire in England. Certain areas of Portsmouth and Southsea run combine together, and the centre of Southsea is less than a mile from Portsmouth centre.
Southsea Castle is a popular tourist destination; it was part of a series of fortifications constructed by Henry VIII around England's coasts to protect the country from invaders. The Castle has had many other uses besides defence. For a while it was a military prison. A lighthouse was built in the 1820s, and is still in use by shipping today.
Southsea town centre is only a stone’s throw away from the beach; it is a stylish place that offers a distinctly different shopping and leisure experience with a wide range of specialist shops and international cuisines.
