With Port Talbot approximately 100 miles south of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, offering ferries to Ireland, good road links into England along the M4 and mainline rail links via Swansea and Shrewsbury, the Brecon Beacons area is relatively easy to get to from both England and Ireland.
To fly to Brecon Beacons area, the airports at Cardiff (40 miles) and Birmingham (95 miles) are approximately 1 to 2 hours drive away.
To travel to the Black Mountain area by train, Llandridod Wells and Llandovery rail stations on the Crewe to Swansea mainline are in the middle of the Brecon Beacons National Park - ideal for Offa's Dyke Path and the Taff Trail. There are also hourly trains to Abergavenny - the 'Gateway to Wales' - from Manchester.
Bus services are limited in this rural area, apart from special Beacons buses to encourage tourists, walkers and hikers to travel to the Beacons National Park by environmentally friendly public transport instead of by car.
